Extension of the State COVID Waivers Until July 1, 2022

COVID Indiana State Waiver Roll-back Information

Summary
The Indiana Department of Health (IDH) has issued an Emergency Order Reissuing Temporary Blanket Waivers for Hospitals and Ambulatory Outpatient Surgical Centers. This emergency order extends 4 separate blanket waivers through July 1, 2022. These waivers have allowed the creation of temporary negative pressure isolation rooms, repurposing of spaces, creation of temporary spaces, and allowances for certain other licensure requirements to be waived temporarily.

Background
The Indiana Public Health Emergency (PHE) was rescinded at 7:00 pm on March 3, 2022. Based on an emergency order issued by The Indiana Department of Health (IDH) on August 9, 2021, the blanket waivers would have expired 45 days after the end of the PHE, which would be April 17th. The August 2021 emergency order did allow for health care facilities to request an extension for individual waivers based on COVID needs. The IDH emergency order issued March 16, 2022 extends the blanket waivers through July 1, 2022. There is no provision in the order of extensions beyond July 1, 2022.

Implementation
Temporary changes made under the blanket waivers must be discontinued and spaces returned to their pre-COVID, approved use and configuration by July 1, 2022. If a facility desires to make permanent changes in use, configuration, or services provided, a plan review must be submitted to IDH.
