8301 Engineering-Maintenance
Schedule: Day Shift. Monday – Friday 7:00a-3:30p.
About the Position
- This position uses mechanical, technical, physical, and communications skills in order to maintain a safe, reliable, and comfortable healthcare environment.
- Carries out the daily corrective and preventative maintenance work of the department and stays current with technical issues in order to make the best positive contribution to patient care.
- Purchases materials, plans, layout, and complete associated work.
- This position will maintain detailed records for maintenance and repairs including time and material tracking.
- Provide leadership and supervision to less senior technicians who could work with him/her.
- Routinely demonstrate a strong commitment to Reid’s behavioral standards as identified in the KSBs.
- Take ownership and hold others accountable.
- Actively promote Reid’s behavioral standards to others.
- Praise good performance and address those who fail to meet Reid’s behavioral standards.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Reads and understands blueprints as an essential part of carrying out work in various disciplines of the job.
- Performs all levels corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with the following list to assure the integrity of the plant and equipment and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the patients, visitors, and staff:
- Responsible for new installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hospital drainage systems, both sanitary and storm drains
- Troubleshoots, maintains, and installs replacement pipe/devices as required.
- Install, replace, repair backflow devices and files the appropriate reports.
- Responsible for troubleshooting, repair and proper operation of fire protection system (i.e. sprinkler system, hydrants, valves, sail switches, etc.).
- Assist HVAC Tech with repair of ice machines and water fountains.
- Troubleshooting repairs and maintains hospital potable water system, hot and cold.
- Operates and maintain maintenance service tools in a safe, clean manner.
- Maintains the shop and storage areas in a orderly and clean manner
- Maintains Medical Gases, Vacuum distribution systems and records as required by codes and standards.
- Maintains scope sinks and processing equipment.
- Completes all documentation to recreate events leading to completion of work order and/or preventative maintenance instructions. Documentation to include property number, narrative of repair work, signature signifying completion, number of manhours to complete work.
- Maintain a parts inventory necessary for assurance of operation of essential services.
- Adheres to electrical lockout procedure, perform all work in a safe, professional manner adhering to national electrical code. Practices and promotes electrical safety.
- Assists in all emergencies as requested.
- Serves as a member of code green, code red and snow removal teams.
- Must be willing to upgrade his/her education commensurate with technical demands for his/her craft.
- Assists and maintains outbuilding plumbing.
- Installation of med gas piping.
Education & Experience
Successful completion of Reid Hospital orientation and competency-based skills appropriate for the job. Individual performance and competency-based skills are maintained through on-going assessment of competence and educational activities. Written evaluations are done on an annual basis.
- Journeyman or equivalent background in plumbing trade.
- Licensed by State of Indiana, as a plumber is desired.
- Certification in backflow prevention devices must be achieved within six months after employment.
- This is a condition of continued employment.
- Valid driver license
- Two years verifiable experience in a maintenance environment
