8301 Engineering-Maintenance
Schedule: Day Shift. Monday – Friday 7:00a-3:30p.
About the Position
- This position uses mechanical, technical, physical, and communications skills in order to maintain a safe, reliable, and comfortable healthcare environment.
- Carries out the daily corrective and preventative maintenance work of the department and stays current with technical issues in order to make the best positive contribution to patient care.
- Purchases materials, plans, layout, and complete associated work.
- This position will maintain detailed records for maintenance and repairs including time and material tracking.
- Provide leadership and supervision to less senior technicians who could work with him/her.
- Routinely demonstrate a strong commitment to Reid’s behavioral standards as identified in the KSBs.
- Take ownership and hold others accountable.
- Actively promote Reid’s behavioral standards to others.
- Praise good performance and address those who fail to meet Reid’s behavioral standards.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Reads and understands blueprints as an essential part of carrying out work in various disciplines of the job.
- Performs all levels corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with the following list to assure the integrity of the plant and equipment and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the patients, visitors, and staff.
- Perform welding procedures and fabricates metal.
- Repair and adjust pumps, motors, transmissions, and gearboxes, drive components, belts, pulleys, and shafts.
- Maintain and repair laundry equipment including tunnel washer, trolley, extractor, conveyors, driers, ironers, and folders.
- Performs maintenance and repair of medical air compressors, vacuum pumps, and blowers.
- Maintains and assures proper operating condition of hydraulic stretchers in Emergency, ICU, and CCU.
- Assist HVAC and PM mechanics with removal/replacement of AHU fan bearings, motors, and alignment.
- Assist Plumber with removal/replacement/repair of various pumps including chilled water, hot water, condense, boiler feedwater, sewage ejection pumps and subsequent alignment.
- Maintains the shop and storage areas in a orderly and clean manner
- Operates and maintains maintenance service tools in a safe, clean manner.
- Completes all documentation necessary to recreate events leading to completion of work order and/or preventative maintenance instructions.
- Documentation to include property number, narrative of repair work, signature signifying completion, number of manhours to complete work.
Education & Experience
Successful completion of Reid Hospital orientation and competency-based skills appropriate for the job. Individual performance and competency-based skills are maintained through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities.
- Proficient in use of acetylene, arc welders and other welding equipment.
- Must be able to silver solder and braze
High School with Vocational School training courses in the following.
- Element of mechanics

- Piping systems
- Blueprint reading.
- Shop Math
- Safety
- Knowledge of building code requirements emphasizing NEC as it applies to machine repair.
- Valid driver’s license
