April 15, 2005
Vincennes University

Once again this year, the Northern and Southern District will be joining for a meeting at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. The meeting will be Friday, April 15 at the School of Technology Building on the VU campus. Arrival will be between 8:00 and 9:00 am with the education program beginning at 9:00. Hillcrest Golf Course

Ron Shake and Barb Weber have planned a golf outing for April 14 at Vincennes, IN. Tee Time is set for 12:00 noon at the Hillcrest Golf Course (Formerly Fox Ridge). This is the course we played last year. Barb has negotiated a cost of $15 per person, including the cart. If you have questions about proper attire, contact Tim. He seems to be setting some kind of trend.

Hillcrest Golf Course

Once again this year, Stevens Industries has volunteered to cook steaks for us following the golf games. We will be eating at the Hillcrest Golf Course. The Stevens bus will be there for folks to tour while the steaks are cooking. If the weather permits, we will be eating on the patio, and if not, the fine folks at Hillcrest will have a room prepared for us. If you would like to come for steaks, but don’t wish to play golf, let Ron know when you RSVP so that they will know how to prepare. Plan to come for supper around 5:00 pm.

Most of the folks that came last year and played golf stayed at the Executive Inn. Tim Adams will be checking with them this week to see if a discount is available. Information will follow shortly.

May 13 and 14th

Our friends at Hillrom have once again offered to host the ISHE Spring meeting at the beautiful Hillrom JAWACDAH Farm near Batesville, IN. Wayne Fairburn is putting together a program of exciting educational opportunities, a tour of the new interactive showroom at Hillrom with lots of time in between to relax in the gorgeous surroundings and enjoy the friendship of our ISHE family.

We will be providing an agenda shortly. The education program will begin on Friday, May 13th at about 9:00 am, and we will conclude at noon on Saturday. Hillrom provides the facilities and wonderful meals at no cost. Take advantage of this opportunity to attend the meeting and consider inviting a potential new ISHE member so that they can find out what ISHE is all about.

Batesville, IN

Wayne is planning a golf outing for Thursday, May 12 at Batesville. Contact Wayne if you are interested in coming a day early and playing golf.

Several years ago, ISHE began a scholarship program. Each year ISHE offers two $1,000 scholarships that are available to the child or grandchild of ISHE members that will be attending a post secondary education institution in the fall and will be majoring in an engineering or technology field. Last year, Richie Hand, son of Richard Hand received a scholarship from ISHE and is attending Vincennes University.

If you are an ISHE member and have a Son, Daughter, Grandson or Granddaughter who might be eligible, please consider applying for a scholarship. It is ISHE’s desire to see or member’s children and grandchildren have the opportunity to prepare for a career in Engineering or Technology.

To apply for a scholarship, contact Tim Adams at (812) 353-9347 or Karen Barry at (317) 338-3238 to receive an application. Complete the application form, which is very simple, unlike the financial aid papers you have probably become accustomed to doing. The student should record on a cassette tape a brief message to ISHE stating:

Who they are
Where they plan to attend school
What they are majoring in
Career Plans
Other interests or activities that they are involved in

Return the application and cassette recording to the ISHE Secretary:

The deadline to submit an application for an ISHE scholarship is May 1, 2005. The ISHE Board of Directors will meet May 14 to determine the scholarship winners. The results will be announced at the ISHE meeting on May 14.

A special administration of the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) Examination is being offered by the AHA Certification Center at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, during the Midwest Healthcare Conference. Interested individuals must apply by September 21, 2005. Walk-ins are not allowed to test. Begin by downloading the CHFM Candidate Handbook and Application from www.aha.org/certification (Click on the CHFM logo) or by calling AMP to order a copy. The Handbook includes eligibility requirements, a complete content outline for the Examination, sample test items, an application and instructions for completing the application.

Looking for study materials? Consider ordering the CHFM Self-Assessment Examination. Developed by the AHA Certification Center, the 100-item practice test mirrors the Examination in content, difficulty and cognitive level. For information on how to order, visit www.aha.org/certification.
