It’s almost time for the ISHE Spring District meetings, which will be combined and meeting at Vincennes University April 15. Also coming up is our annual State Spring Meeting hosted by Hillrom at JAWACDAH Farms. Information follows for both meetings. We look forward to seeing you there.

Joe St. John has retired after 47 years of service at Morgan County Hospital. He has also been a long-term member of ISHE. Joe told us that he didn’t remember the exact year, but believes that he joined ISHE in 1967 or 1968. A surprise retirement party was held for Joe on March 13. Several ISHE members were present and presented Joe with a plaque expressing our appreciation for his many years of service, mentoring and excellence in Healthcare Engineering and as a faithful member of ISHE. Joe was also presented with a lifetime membership to ISHE. We wish Joe the very best in retirement and hope that he will be able to attend some of our meetings in the future.

Vincennes University

Plan to attend the Northern and Southern District meeting at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. The meeting will be Friday, April 15 at the School of Technology Building on the VU campus.

The agenda is as follows:

Directions to the Vincennes University Technology Building

Take Highway 41 into Vincennes. You will pass the Executive Inn on the left as you come in to town. Proceed through town to St. Clair Street. There is a Circus Video on the left and a salvage yard on the right. Turn right on St. Clair. Proceed until you come to the track and field area. There is a blue running track that you can’t miss. Turn left, and proceed past the track to the brick building on the right. This is the technology building. The ISHE meeting will be in the 1st floor auditorium.

There is a parking lot at the building. There is additional parking across from the track, and also west of the Technology Building. The parking lot begins to fill by 8:30, so if you get in a bit early, it may make parking easier.

Hillcrest Golf Course
Vincennes Indiana

Ron Shake and Barb Weber have planned a golf outing for April 14 at Vincennes, IN. Tee Time is set for 12:00 noon at the Hillcrest Golf Course (Formerly Fox Ridge). This is the course we played last year. Barb has negotiated a cost of $15 per person, including the cart.

Directions to Hillcrest Golf Coarse

Take Highway 41 into Vincennes. You will pass the Executive Inn on the left as you come in to town. Turn left on the street that runs north and south past the Executive Inn parking lot. Proceed approximately one block. Turn left on the road that runs behind the Executive Inn. Stay on this road. You will cross over highway 67 and 41. When you come to a stop sign, angle left. Proceed to the golf coarse, which will be on the left.

Hillcrest Golf Course

Once again this year, Stevens Industries has volunteered to cook steaks for us following the golf games. We will be eating at the Hillcrest Golf Course. The Stevens bus will be there for folks to tour while the steaks are cooking. If the weather permits, we will be eating on the patio, and if not, the fine folks at Hillcrest will have a room prepared for us. If you would like to come for steaks, but don’t wish to play golf, let Ron know when you RSVP so that they will know how to prepare. Plan to come for supper around 5:00 pm.

Lodging

May 13 and 14th

Our friends at Hillrom have once again offered to host the ISHE Spring meeting at the beautiful Hillrom JAWACDAH Farm near Batesville, IN. Wayne Fairburn has planned a program that provides cutting edge information about the trends in healthcare that will impact our facilities and information regarding what is happening with energy costs and availability. We also will have the opportunity to tour the new interactive showroom at Hillrom with lots of time in between to relax in the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the friendship of our ISHE family.

Hillrom provides the facilities, wonderful meals and Friday night accommodations at no cost. Take advantage of this opportunity to attend the meeting and consider inviting a potential new ISHE member or an ISHE member that we have not seen for a while so that they can find out what ISHE is all about.

May 1, 2005 Deadline for Application

ISHE offers two $1,000 scholarships each year that are available to the child or grandchild of ISHE members that will be attending a post secondary education institution in the fall and will be majoring in an engineering or technology field.

If you are an ISHE member and have a Son, Daughter, Grandson or Granddaughter who might be eligible, please consider applying for a scholarship. It is ISHE’s desire to see or member’s children and grandchildren have the opportunity to prepare for a career in Engineering or Technology.

To apply for a scholarship, contact Tim Adams at (812) 353-9347 or Karen Barry at (317) 338-3238 to receive an application. Complete the simple application form and have the student record on a cassette tape or CD a brief message to ISHE stating:

Who they are
Where they plan to attend school
What they are majoring in
Career Plans
Other interests or activities that they are involved in

The deadline to submit an application for an ISHE scholarship is May 1, 2005. The ISHE Board of Directors will meet May 14 to determine the scholarship winners. The results will be announced at the ISHE meeting on May 14.

Indianapolis, IN

Plan now to attend this year’s Midwest Healthcare Engineering Conference. Once again, we anticipate a full agenda of educational opportunities as well as a dynamic vendor show. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with vendors, find out about new products and plan for future projects and purchases.

This year, we will be offering an opportunity to take the Certified Health Facilities Manager (CHFM) exam at the conference. If you are not a CHFM currently, consider attending the Midwest Conference, participating in a review session and taking the exam.
