Scholarship Award Program
Hospital Classroom at Vincennes University
Work is progressing on the classroom project at Vincennes University (VU). ISHE is supporting the creation of this hospital environment classroom at VU. This classroom will be used for training students in the Biomedical Technology Program. It will also be used for training in some of the industrial electrical classes, which can help to prepare students for careers in Healthcare Engineering. The room will simulate two types of hospital environments, an Intensive/Coronary Care Room and a Nursery. The room will feature not only medical equipment, bed and other typical furnishings, but will also be equipped with functional medical gas systems, med gas alarms, nurse call, and generator alarms This training environment will make a great addition to the program.
ISHE, along with Bloomington Hospital and several donors are leading the effort in creating this classroom. Clinical Engineering Team Members from Bloomington Hospital, along with others will assist with installing equipment and constructing the room.
Many ISHE Members attended the Spring Northern and Southern District Meeting held at Vincennes University and got an opportunity to learn about the quality programs available at the University as well as inspect the progress on the project ISHE is working on. Those who have made donations to the Vincennes University Project are listed below.

PURDUE TAP
Purdue Technical Assistance Program Energy Efficiency Services (TAP EES) helps companies to save energy through training and implementation assistance. Many companies have learned that they can save significant amounts of energy, and reduce energy costs, by implementing low-cost and no-cost changes to their operation of energy intensive systems. These industry “best practices” are taught in U.S. Department of Energy workshops by industry experts who have gone through US DOE Qualified Instructor training and certification.
TAP EES, in cooperation with and funding from the Indiana Office of Energy & Defense Development (OED) and the Indiana Workforce in Regional Economic Development (WIRED), and in partnership with many of Indiana’s utilities and manufactures, provides at a discounted cost, these 1-day and half day end-user focused workshops. Please find below and attached the updated schedule as of March 28th, 2008.

2008 Best Practices Workshops
Motor System Management – End User Workshop
Purdue TAP has teamed up with Indiana Michigan Power to provide three opportunities to learn about Motor System energy efficiency.
July 7th: South Bend, IMP Service Center
July 17th: Muncie, IMP Service Center
July 18th: Fort Wayne, IMP New Haven Service Center
Motor driven systems such as pumps, fans, blowers, and compressors are the single largest users of electricity in manufacturing. Learn how to reduce energy costs by properly sourcing and maintaining motor driven systems. Attendees of this course will also learn how to use the U.S. Department of Energy’s MotorMaster software system to determine potential energy and cost savings.
If you have responsibility for motor driven systems or energy use at your facility, this workshop is intended for you.

Fee: Normally $125, registration is being offered at $75.00/person thanks to generous support from Indiana Michigan Power.
* Please register at least two weeks prior to the workshop: This will ensure we have sufficient training materials and catering for everyone.
A $25.00 late fee will be assessed on late registrations.
Fans System Assessment Tool – End User Workshop
Purdue TAP has teamed up with Timpont REMC and Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. to host this 1-day end-user workshop on fan and blower systems.
July 23rd: Lafayette, SIA Training Center
Is your fan system operating within its fan and system curves? If not, it could be wasting energy and causing expensive and unncessary maintenance costs. Learn how to properly configure your fan or blower system to operate at its optimum efficiency. Attendees of this workshop will also learn how to use the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fans System Assessment Tool (FSAT) software tool to compare different system configurations and quantify potential energy savings.
If you have responsibility for the fan and blower systems at your plant, or if you have financial responsibility for energy costs, this workshop is intended for you.
